MINA
On Dhul Hijjah 8, the “Day of Tarwiyah,” pilgrims head to Mina, a tent city about 5 km to the east of Makkah. Pilgrims stay in Mina for a full day and night. This is time for the pilgrims to prepare mentally and physically for the profound spiritual encounter on the plains of Arafat.
MAKKAH
THE STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO HAJJ 2023
ARAFAT
On Dhul Hijjah 9, the pilgrims gather here for the pinnacle of the Hajj, where they offer prayers to Allah for forgiveness, and make afternoon prayers at Namirah Mosque.
MUZDALIFAH
During the evening of Dhul Hijjah 9, they make their way to Muzdalifah, positioned between Arafat and Mina, where they spend the night and gather small stones. These stones are later used for the ritual act of stoning Satan at the Jamarat pillars in Mina.
MINA
On the morning of Dhul Hijjah 10 (the day of Eid Al-Adha), pilgrims head to Mina to throw Jamarat Al-Aqaba.
GRAND MOSQUE
After throwing pebbles at Jamarat Al-Aqaba, the pilgrims head to the Grand Mosque for Tawaf Al-Ifadah, or circumambulation of the Kaaba, which could be performed between Dhul Hijjah 10 and 12. Once the ritual is completed, pilgrims are free to engage in all lawful activities permitted before donning the ihram. However, they must return to Mina and continue with the remaining rituals.
MINA
Pilgrims must remain in Mina and perform two additional rami rituals on Dhul Hijjah 11, 12 and 13, known as “The Days of Tashreeq.” In the afternoon of Dhul Hijjah 11, pilgrims gather 21 pebbles and proceed to throw them at the three Jamarat. They will start by stoning Jamarat Al-Ula, followed by Jamarat Al-Wusta and finally Jamarat Al-Aqaba.
MAKKAH
The Tawaf Al-Wida, or farewell Tawaf, is performed before a pilgrim departs from Makkah and is an obligatory Hajj ritual.
